DDA Matt Nelson volunteered as an Assistant Varsity Lacrosse Coach for the at Mountain View High School Lacrosse team this spring. Matt, a former collegiate lacrosse player at Oregon State, brought experience and enthusiasm to the team.

DDA Van McIver was in the middle of a complicated Assault II trial this week when the defendant decided to change his plea to guilty and accept a 42 month prison sentence. The plea agreement was only reached after DDA McIver and the DA Investigator tracked down key witnesses. To his credit, the defendant also accepted responsibility for his conduct once the State had secured all of the necessary witnesses, the majority of whom were transient.

DDA Casey Baxter finished with trial last Friday evening with the defendant being found guilty of DUII, Recklessly Endangering Another Person, and Refusal to Take a Breath Test. The defendant drove while under the influence of alcohol with his 12-year-old daughter in the vehicle. The defendant stopped at Newport Market to purchase more alcohol; Bend Police responded to Newport Market when the child secretly contacted 9-1-1 to report her father because she was scared.
