DDA Casey Baxter finished with trial last Friday evening with the defendant being found guilty of DUII, Recklessly Endangering Another Person, and Refusal to Take a Breath Test. The defendant drove while under the influence of alcohol with his 12-year-old daughter in the vehicle. The defendant stopped at Newport Market to purchase more alcohol; Bend Police responded to Newport Market when the child secretly contacted 9-1-1 to report her father because she was scared.

DDA Kandy Gies, one of the most experienced prosecutors in the office completed a Domestic Violence Assault trial this week which resulted in convictions for Assault II; Assault IV; Assault IV and Strangulation. The incidents of abuse occurred over a 2 day period. DCSO investigated the crimes and the defendant was held in custody pending trial. The victim returned to Oregon for the trial after leaving the state and expressed her appreciation for the Saving Grace, the DA's Victims' Assistance Program and DDA Gies.

DDA Daniel Reesor was in trial this week and convicted a repeat property crime offender of felony Theft, Burglary, and Possession of Burglary Tools. The Defendant was found guilty of burglarizing a local business here in Bend, and taking well over $1,000 worth of store merchandise.
