Today, Luke Wirkkala was convicted for the murder of David Ryder. The jury was attentive and spent nine days listening to the testimony at trial and receiving exhibits. The jury applied the facts to the law and the defendant was convicted.

DDA Matt Nelson convicted defendant Wesley Bryan of three separate counts of Unlawful Delivery of Marijuana to a Minor and five separate counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Minor. The children he delivered the Marijuana to, by allowing them to smoke it, were between 10 and 14 years of age. This investigation was conducted by the Bend Police Department, another co-defendant previously plead guilty to charges as well. The defendant will be sentenced on April 21, 2014.

Justice Reinvestment Program Grant Program The Deschutes County District Attorney is authorized to recommend grant approval of discretionary grants to qualified community-based victim of crime service providers for projects or activities that benefit victims of crime in Deschutes County. Discretionary grants are made available through the Justice Reinvestment Program.

At the National Crime Victims’ Right Weeks launch on Monday April 7th at 1:15pm hosted by District Attorney Patrick Flaherty he will announce information about the application process for the Justice Reinvestment Program Grant. This new grant will be open to local eligible organizations for specific projects or activities which positively affect the provision of services to victims of crime within Deschutes County. This ceremony will be on the front steps of the historic courthouse at 1164 NW Bond, Bend.
