On March 17, 2011, bids were opened and accepted for a project that includes the Deschutes County Sheriff's Office Adult Jail and Evidence Room renovation. These projects are necessary for general maintenance, needed renovation and evidence room expansion.

Initially, it was anticipated that the needed improvements could cost as much as approximately $900,000. We are pleased to announce that Bend builder HSW Builders has been awarded the contract for $637,900. Additional soft costs for security, fencing, permits, etc. will make the total cost approximately $700,000. The $700,000 is funded from $600,000 Sheriff's Office contingency and $100,000 from the Board of County Commissioners. There will be no new taxes assessed as a result of these needed improvements.

This project includes expanded personnel dining (jail staff is not allowed outside the facility during their shift for meal breaks), expanded program area for inmates, expanded men's locker room and expanded kitchen storage. In addition, an increase in evidence storage located in the main Sheriff's Office building.

Work will commence on or about May 1, 2011 and is expected to take 4 months to complete. For additional information, please contact Captain Ruth Jenkin at 541-388-6667.
